I'm (part) Ital...This story piqued my interest. I'm (part) Italian myself, and traditionally in Italy, circumcision was not performed on baby boys other than for medical reasons. Also, many Italians I know, including my father and my devoutly Catholic ex-boyfriend, are strongly against circumcision for non-medical purposes. My ex actually called it 'cruelty.'<br /><br />The situation of circumcision in Italy also debunks the notion that circumcision is purely a religious matter. Some Christians who oppose circumcision bans see them as an assault on religion, even though, as far I know, no Christian church requires circumcision. On the other end of the spectrum, some die-hard secularists see circumcision as an example of the evils of religion, even though many religious nations, such as Italy and Ireland, generally keep baby boys intact.<br /><br />Just a note: I've never had to face the issue of circumcision myself because I don't have sons, but my daughter has already told me that if she has a baby boy, she won't 'cut his boy part!'emilializhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15448416605125811053noreply@blogger.com
