To quote a certain mother on TikTok, “So I was going to leave this alone, but, I’m not.”
You know, I used to be one of those intactivists who would hop on each and every time some mother posted about their son’s genital mutilation online. Back when I used to be an angrier intactivist, I would wait on Twitter, wait in Facebook intactivist groups for others to post links to mothers talking about their son’s circumcision. I would go and lay into them, pulling out all the stops, making sure I did every thing I could to make sure it stung.
But then, I realized my time could be used more productively.
Once a child has been mutilated, there’s nothing we can do about it, and chances are a parent’s mind is already made up and their ears are deaf to anything we tell them. So why bother?
There is merit to posting on these threads though; while the mother may be trying to justify herself and may be hardening herself to any information we post, there are other moms reading this, and somebody’s got to be setting the record straight.
So while I no longer go “circumcision mom hunting,” if I see BS, I will call it out when and if I can. Sometimes I go on there, and there are already others commenting, which is great. And sometimes, what can I say, I’m a busy family man and I can’t get sucked in to every circumcision shit-storm some attention-seeking mom whips up on social media.
Still, if I see straight up verifiable idiocy, I can’t help but dig in.
I’m going to be polite about it, I’m going to refrain from making personal attacks, but I’m still going to call BS out whenever I see it.
Mother on TikTok Doubles Down on Idiotic Alibis
So like, I was scrolling down my Facebook newsfeed, and I saw this video that someone decided to take from TikTok and upload to YouTube.
I thought “TikTok? Not TikTok…” I had never had a TikTok account, mind you, I swore I’d stay away from that place if it’s the last thing I did.
But there I go, like the weak idiot that I am, and I click on the link. I watched the whole thing and I was like “No. This shit just can't fly.”
Her TikTok handle is right there for everyone to see. (I'm not going to post it on here... if anyone wants to go comment, I'm'a let you do the work.)
So there I go, downloading the app for this shit, making my Joseph4GI profile just so that I can comment. Thoughts going through my mind are… "what if I get banned like on Twitter because my posts are reported as 'harassment' or what not?"
Whatever, I thought, I’ll just post and leave.
Like, I’m not going to call her names for doing this, I’m going to give
this mother the benefit of the doubt; I’m a father too, and I completely
understand that we all just want the best for our children. But she is
repeating verifiable bullshit and I just have to call it out.
I went in the comments section for this video, and while there were some voices of reason there, there were also other moms repeating the same old BS to justify themselves.
I went to town making my comment, which on TikTok has to be made in a series because of the character limit.
TikTok is a funny place, because even after a user has blocked you (I can tell she blocked me because I could no longer see the video…), TikTok still notifies you when others reply to your comment on the video that supposedly “doesn’t exist.”
I decided I’d log out of TikTok and never log in ever again, because it just seems like another black hole I can get sucked into, but other intactivist users I know tell me that, as is usually the case with mothers flaunting their son’s circumcision on social media, the mother is intent on calling whenever someone tries to present her with information “mom-shaming,” and she’s blocking users and deleting comments that don’t agree with her.
Well, I may not be able to post to the TikTok video anymore, but nothing will prevent me from calling this woman out here.
Again, keeping it respectful.
Point by Point Response
What I’m going to do is post the transcript to her short video here, addressing what she says point by point.
Let’s begin with her opening lines:
“So I was going to leave this alone, but, I’m not.”
She should have left well enough alone. I could have left this alone too, but, as with her, I’m not.
“We’re not gonna mom-shame on here. OK?”
This is an interesting opener; it’s almost as if she was expecting backlash. But I ask, what does she consider “mom-shaming?” On the one hand, calling her names would be wrong. That’s no argument and no one deserves that. But is “mom-shaming” hurling insults? Or merely posting information that does not validate her position? There is a difference.
As parents, we can only make informed decisions, and make better future decisions from hearing newer, better information. Sometimes we make mistakes, and it’s only human. But good parents should want to hear new information so as to not make the same mistake in the future. The presentation of newer, better information so that we could make better decisions in the future should not be construed as “mom-shaming.”
Yet it seems to be “mom-shaming” any time a mom makes the decision to circumcise, and others present information that debunk her reasons for allowing it to happen.
“We’re not gonna mom-shame here” seems to be code for “Don’t post anything that makes me have to second-guess my decision, because it makes me feel ashamed.”
No one ever wants to learn we made the wrong decision, especially something as irrevocable as cutting off part of our children's’ genitals, but how are parents supposed to make better decisions if this information is forbidden from being presented?
“If you wanna get your son circumcised, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine.”
Invariably, mothers that are trying to justify their own position of having had their sons circumcised want to frame it as “just another parental decision.” Diapers or cloth, processed baby food or food made in-house, circumcision or intact organs, tattoos and piercings or clear unpierced skin. Zelda ears or not. You know? The usual.
Though it’s true that parents must make many decisions for their children, not every decision parents make in regards to their children is justified merely because “parents must decide everything for their children.” A parent may decide to give cigarettes and booze to their children. And why not, “my child, my choice,” right?
But talk of “the big parental decision” is a red-herring.
Reaping profit from performing elective, non-medical surgery on healthy, non-consenting individuals already constitutes medical fraud. Without medical or clinical indication, how is it doctors are performing surgery on healthy, non-consenting minors, let alone giving parents any kind of “choice?”
This mother is under the delusion that she’s entitled to a “choice,” as are many others. It benefits doctors who perform male infant circumcision.
The question must be asked, what other elective, cosmetic, non-medical "options" can doctors offer parents for their healthy, non-consenting child?
Now begin the alibis:
“My issue is, I got my son circumcised because I don’t want him to have any issues in the future because I’m not that ‘what if mom.’ I don’t want that “We’ll we’re gonna let this happen and then see how it goes. NO. We’re gonna go ahead and take care of the situation, while we can.”
So much to unpack here.
First off, what “situation?”
A disease indicating a cure is a situation. An injury or deformity requiring surgical correction is a situation. Anatomically correct organs every child is born with are not a “situation” that needs “taking care of.”
Her “issue” is hypothetical non-issues.
In essence, the “issue” is imagined.
It’s interesting she wants to frame herself as not being a “what if” mom. There are so many “what ifs” that she chose to ignore when she put her son through this.
What if her son grows up to resent that his penis was cut to assuage the concern for “issues” that may not even manifest in the future?
Did she stop to think about that?
No. This whole video is mostly about justifying what she did and not feeling “ashamed” for having made a permanent decision on her son’s body. That’s what’s kinda frustrating about this video; she wants to make it about “him.” The poor child doesn’t have a say in what happens to his body. This is all about getting validation on social media.
“And he did perfectly fine. Dr. said he didn’t cry or anything like that.”
The doctor would tell her that. Why does she believe him at face value? Has she not seen videos of the procedure on YouTube? Children don’t just “not cry” during the procedure. And even when they don’t, who is she trying to fool? There are videos on YouTube of mothers changing their children’s diapers for the first time and the uncontrollable crying that ensues after the local numbing wears off. She’s either dense or she hopes her viewers are.
“But do you really trust your teenage boy to wash down there and, get all in where he needs to get to make sure it’s clean? NO. I’m sorry, I’m not gonna trust my son to do that…”
This is probably the most telling part of the video.
It’s almost as if she has forgotten the hygiene issues she has to worry about as a woman every month. A teenage girl needs to learn to wear pads or insert tampons, how to dispose of them properly, not to mention clean up after herself and her surroundings. But she “can’t trust a teenage boy to wash down there.” Right.
Perhaps we should assume good faith; after all, she doesn’t have a penis, let alone an intact one.
“…and on top of that, when he’s like 80 or 90 years old, I don’t trust the nursing home, the nurses or himself to take care of himself, cuz I have known people that work in nursing homes, and they don’t wash themselves properly down there and get multiple infections.”
This last part is rather convoluted bunkum.
Men AND women struggle to clean themselves in old age, especially if they become senile and unable to care for themselves. If you can’t trust the nursing home and the nurses working there to do their job and look after the elderly interned there, who can you trust? If a nurse is incompetent and won’t clean an intact man, shouldn’t she be fired for not doing her job?
No. Grandpa should be circumcised and geriatric caretakers shouldn't be expected to learn natural male anatomy.
Like nurses must clean up feces, urine, and vomit, and they must clean out grandma's vagina, but don't make them come near grandpa's intact penis. Oh, no!
She says she has known people that work in nursing homes and “they don’t wash themselves properly down there and get multiple infections.” She probably means to say that according to the people she knows, the *men* don’t wash properly and get multiple infections.
In all honesty, I think she's just making this up as she goes along. Every mother who wants to justify herself for doing this knows *someone* who has had, or whose child has had “problems,” or "someone" who "works in a nursing home" with horror stories. Like 80% of men in the US are circumcised. Where on earth are all the intact boys and men coming from?
Another reality; only boys and men with problems go to hospitals. You won't hear of all the intact boys and men who aren't "suffering" because they don't go to the doctor. Doctors and nurses will tell you about other problems they see in patients. Appendectomies and gall bladder removals day in and day out. Every patient that goes to the doctor goes there for some sort of "problem." But no one says "You should have his or her appendix out because I see tons of patients at the hospital who need it." Or "It's better to remove his or her gall bladder right now. So many patients come in to get those removed."
All of these "I know someone who blah blah blah" stories are nothing but ad-hoc/post-hoc special pleading non-sense.
For those of you who don't understand logical fallacies by name, ad-hoc/post-hoc means "justification after the fact." "Special pleading" means when you want to make a special case for yourself.
But let's just give this mother the benefit of the doubt; this raises the question of why weren’t the nursing home workers doing their job properly to begin with.
She doesn’t mention anything of what happens when women get infections and have hygiene problems.
It is common for older women to get hysterectomies, as having a uterus and ovaries is a risk for fibroids (noncancerous growths inside the uterus), endometriosis (a painful disorder in which tissue similar to normal uterine lining grows outside the uterus), and cancer of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, or cervix. Does it make sense to perform a hysterectomy on a newborn to prevent problems for her near the end of her life?
No. It doesn’t.
The foreskin has function. It protects the glans in the uterus and in early childhood years. It has the most erogenous part of the penis. It keeps the glans moist and supple; without the foreskin, the glans becomes dried out and desensitized under layers of keratin. The foreskin provides a buffer zone during masturbation and helps stimulate a woman during intercourse. The expanding foreskin accommodates the shaft; removal of the foreskin can result in painful erections if too much skin is removed.
How does it make sense to destroy these functions and possibly ruin a man’s sex life so that caretakers “don’t have to clean it in his 90s?”
It’s nonsense.
Of course, we’ve heard the whole “when he’s 90” canard before.
Can she be forgiven for not actually having researched the prevalence of circumcision globally, and how intact men fare in geriatric care in the UK, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, France, pretty much the rest of Europe, not to mention Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and pretty much the rest of South America?
Maybe she can be forgiven for failing to notice the absence of an epidemic of “issues” in the rest of the world where most men, upward from 70%, aren’t circumcised?
Maybe.
She is American after all, and information in America seems to gear American parents toward circumcision.
And that’s the other thing that bothers me about this whole thing. All over her thread she repeats over and over “I’ve done my research, I’ve done my research,” when clearly she hasn’t.
If she did, she would know that not a single medical organization in the world recommends male infant circumcision, not even the American Academy of Pediatrics. She would know that in 2012 the AAP reviewed all existing medical literature on the topic and concluded that “the benefits are not great enough to recommend male infant circumcision,” and that “the true incidence of complications after male infant circumcision is unknown.” You can’t “do your research” and arrive at a more reasonable conclusion than the most respected medical organizations on the planet.
But you know, she can't even be blamed for this; it shouldn't be a parent's job to be on the up-and-up regarding global medical consensus. That should be the job of the doctor. What on earth are they paid millions for? So they can flout being held professionally responsible?
Parents trust doctors in their white lab coats to be the most informed resource regarding healthcare, and it's a shame that American doctors are abusing this trust to reap profit on an elective, non-medical procedure.
She can be forgiven for not knowing what goes on outside of America, she can be forgiven for not doing her own research and trusting her doctor, but can she be forgiven for doubling down on her ignorance and calling it "mom-shaming" every time people try to educate her?
I don’t mean to shame anybody, but willful ignorance is not a virtue.
Making mistakes doesn't make you a bad parent; refusing to acknowledging them does. As parents we should always be ready to admit we've made a mistake, and make better decisions based on newer, up-to-date information.
You can't post a spicy video on social media about something as controversial as male infant circumcision and then claim to be a victim of "mom-shaming" when others react and you don't get the validation you were hoping for.
She ends with this:
“So, we’re not gonna mom-shame on here. Stop thinking it’s mutilation, it’s NOT.”
What she means to say, of course, is she does not want to be made to feel ashamed for having gone through with an irreversible decision. She wants others to stop thinking it’s mutilation because it makes HER feel ashamed.
I hate to say it, but how others feel or think has no bearing; facts are objectively true by virtue that they can be observed and verified.
Without medical or clinical indication, “mutilation” is precisely what slicing off a normal, healthy part of a healthy, non-consenting minor is.
She needs to stop calling naming facts “mom-shaming.” That the facts are what they are do not blame those pointing them out.
And, to coin a phrase, she needs to stop thinking circumcision isn't mutilation; it is.
Private Parental Decisions Aren't Private on Social Media
Finally, I want to close with this, because it seems some parents don't seem to understand the way the internet works:
If you don't want others "shaming you" for your poor parental decisions, if you don't want others “gettingin your business," posting said "business" on social media, where others are likely to comment, is prrrrrobably not a good idea.
C'mon. This should have been a lesson learned from the MySpace era.
This isn't meant to be a "mom-shame."
It's meant to be educational.
It may be too late for this mother's child, but it's never to late for other children.
This post is full of links to legit news articles and resources for parents who are actually looking into this issue.
I hope this mother finds this post and learns something, and if she still refuses to learn, I hope other parents find this post and that they learn.
If at least one parent becomes informed and spares their child needless risk and mutilation, I will be glad to have written this post. If she finds this, I genuinely wish you and your child the health and happiness.
Mission Statement The foreskin is not a birth defect. Neither is it a congenital deformity or genetic anomaly akin to a 6th finger or a cleft. Neither is it a medical condition like a ruptured appendix or diseased gall bladder. Neither is it a dead part of the body, like the umbilical cord, hair, or fingernails.
The foreskin is not "extra skin." The foreskin is normal, natural, healthy, functioning tissue, present in all males at birth; it is as intrinsic to male genitalia as labia are to female genitalia.
Unless there is a medical or clinical indication, the circumcision of a healthy, non-consenting individuals is a deliberate wound; it is the destruction of normal, healthy tissue, the permanent disfigurement of normal, healthy organs, and by very definition, infant genital mutilation, and a violation of the most basic of human rights.
Without medical or clinical indication, doctors have absolutely no business performing surgery in healthy, non-consenting individuals, much less be eliciting any kind of "decision" from parents.
In any other case, reaping profit from non-medical procedures on non-consenting individuals constitutes medical fraud.
The risks of male infant circumcision include infection, partial or full ablation, hemorrhage and even death. (See links above and below.) Since male infant circumcision is elective, cosmetic procedure on healthy, non-consenting individuals, any risk above “zero” is unconscionable.
I was lucky I found some time to write yet another post for this blog this month! Hopefully I'll keep finding time to write about this ongoing issue in my home country.
I was scrolling through Facebook this morning, and I ran into this:
This got me thinking about the possibility of parents suing doctors who went ahead and circumcised children without permission from parents.
The problem with suing doctors in the United States is that male infant circumcision is not seen as "harm" by the people there. 80% of men in the United States are circumcised from birth (this is separate from the rate of male infant circumcision, which has fallen to 56.4% as per the CDC), so most men are likely to be circumcised, and most women are likely to be married to circumcised men and/or mothers to circumcised male children. For this reason, and this reason alone, it is more than likely that sitting judges may let doctors who circumcise children "by mistake" off the hook.
In Muncie, Indiana, a doctor circumcised a child "by mistake." The sad part of this case is that the child's family traditionally does not circumcise.
One of the witnesses downplayed the unwanted procedure because "a penis could not be used to read books published in Braille for the sight-impared."
If that's the case, a clitoris can't be used for the same purpose either.
In this case, the jury decided to let the doctor off the hook without paying any damages.
But it's not necessarily the case that a doctor will be let off every time; every once in a while, justice shines through and knife-happy doctors are held accountable.
After a mother, Vera Delgado, had told doctors over and over that she did not want her child circumcised, the child was taken away and circumcised anyway while she was away from the NICU.
In this case, the mother sued for millions of dollars and she WON.
There have been other cases in the past where doctors faced SOME kind of accountability. I copied and pasted the following comments from the same thread as above:
This isn't to say that circumcision cases simply can't be won, either.
In most cases where a circumcision goes beyond acceptable "harm" (destroying any healthy part of the body IS "harm"), parents are successful in suing doctors for millions. (Do a search on my blog for "litigation" and/or "lawsuits." I've posted plenty on here.)
But that's just it; in order for a circumcision to be considered "harmful" it has to go beyond what many doctors and nurses consider "harmless"; for those who perform circumcision, taking a child's foreskin, ripping it from its adhesion to the glans, crushing it in a clamp and then slicing it off, where 99.9% of human males are born with a foreskin, isn't considered "harm."
A circumcision botch where part or all of the glans (AKA "head of the penis"), "that" is "harm."
Are we seriously going to depend on subjective ideas of "harm?
Because whether we like it or not, female circumcision (AKA "FGM") isn't considered "harm" by people in countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Egypt, Sudan and others.
Let's imagine a couple of hypothetical situations.
What if an expatriate had their daughter in one of the above countries, and the daughter was circumcised "by mistake" in a hospital there?
Or what if a doctor from one of those countries immigrates to the United States and circumcises a child "by mistake?"
Could his or her alibi be "Well, I don't consider it harm?"
That is now a thinkable possibility, given the fact that the ban on FGM in the United States has been deemed "unconstitutional" by a judge in a recent case.
What about "parental choice," which is quite possibly one of the greatest defenses of male infant circumcision in the US?
But most of all, what about a person's individual basic human rights to his own body?
From the same Facebook thread as above, a paralegal gave his account of a father who discovered his son was already circumcised after doctors kept asking him and his wife to sign the consent forms. The father demanded to see his child first, and that's how he found out.
I've heard it be commented before by some mothers, that doctors and nurses told them that they couldn't leave the hospital until the baby was circumcised. From the same thread:
I've also heard of cases where the parents put their foot down on not having their child circumcised, and the hospital billing them for it anyway. Someone commented on this same thread:
Circumcision is a moneymaker, so of course there financial incentive for doctors and nurses to push male infant circumcision on parents, even if it means lying to them about not having a choice in the matter.
As concerned American parents, we have got to stand up and demand to know what's going on here.
What is the AAP telling professionals across the country?
That it's OK to push male infant genital mutilation on parents in whatever which way possible?
There are CONSENT forms that need to be signed.
What's with this "You can't leave the hospital until the child is circumcised" BS?
Do American parents have to simply always be watching their children like a hawk?
It seems that's what we've got to do, because even if we refuse to sign the circumcision consent forms and demand doctors not mutilate our children, there's nothing we can do legally.
From the same thread:
For any parent interested in litigation against doctors, nurses or hospitals that circumcised their children against their consent and express wishes, there is one group of lawyers that I know you should contact, and that's Attorneys for the Rights of the Child, AKA "ARCLaw." Google them, or click on the link down under "External Links." (Or, click here.)
In a country where doctors can get away with mutilating your child's genitals, parents need to be warned and forearmed.
David Llewellyn: "The Circumcision Lawyer" On the same thread above, an attorney can be seen commenting.
That attorney is none other than David J. Llewellyn.
He is an unsung hero of the intactivist movement. One of his specialties is male infant circumcision. He is in fact the same David J. Llewellyn who sued Mogen out of business in a 11-million dollar lawsuit. A news article regarding this lawsuit can be read here. He has handled other million-dollar lawsuits as well. If there is anyone who knows about litigation involving male infant circumcision, it's this man. He has a Facebook page here, as well as his own website, at thecircumcisionlawyer.com.
The 2020 elections were rather stressful and I'm so glad they're finally over. That said, I don't really feel like going into an elaborate post, as that takes a lot of time and thought, so I thought I'd merely copy/paste a post I saw on Facebook, which is perfect the way it is anyway, complete with demonstrative photo. I'll keep my own thoughts to a minimum.
This was posted on a profile called "Brother K."
INSIDE
THE CIRCUMCISION ROOM of a large pediatric office. The circumcision
board (#1) is leaning against a defibrillator (green case #2) to restart
the baby's heart when it stops during the circumcision, and a
suctioning canister (white container with tubes #3) to suction out the
vomit when the baby pukes during the circumcision. The mom described a
large table in the center of the room with a low overhanging light to
illuminate the circumcision board during the penis surgery.
The
mom told me, "I went to my baby's two month app and they put me in the
circumcision room. The moment I walked in and saw the board I said oh my
God you do circumcisions in here that’s terrible. She just looked at me
and said yeah we do them.
"They even have a crash cart. I could
see the defibrillator. And that is what the [circumcision] board is
leaning against. They had this huge bed in the middle with the light
above it. The light was low. You could tell it was focused for the penis
area. It was so disturbing.
"On the shelves they had a bunch of
equipment and labeling. Like Vaseline, and gauze things like that. I
felt so sick just being in there. I couldn’t even pay attention to the
nurse's questions. I could just feel the presence of all of the bad
shit.
"The nurse was waiting behind me when I took the photo.
Then they took me to a smaller room. A standard size exam room. I
started crying when I told the doctor I never wanted to be in that room
again. The doctor didn’t even know the board is called a Circumstraint.
He said he called it a papoose [board]. I told him I know that it is
called a Circumstraint.
"These people act like I’m crazy for being against this abuse." _____ NOTE: Thanks to three American nurses who have confirmed the names and purposes of the devices in this photo.
Oh for the day when these superfluous rooms are eliminated from hospitals.
We need to stop euphemising the forced severing of the foreskins from babies as "male infant circumcision" and start calling it what it is; infant male genital mutilation.
Unless there is genuine medical indication to circumcise a healthy, non-consenting minor, and let's just be honest with ourselves, there never is, doing this to a child is purely cosmetic, plain and simple.
In addition to violating a healthy, non-consenting person's basic human rights, it's also a needless risk; the risks of male infant circumcision include infection, partial or full ablation of the penis, hemorrhage and even death.
Because this is cosmetic, non-medical procedure, any risk above zero is unconscionable.
Without medical or clinical indication, doctors have no business performing surgery on healthy, non-consenting minors, let alone be eliciting any kind of "choice" from parents.
That this woman was made to wait in this torture chamber out of a horror movie, no, that these rooms exist at all, is despicable.
These rooms need to be eliminated from hospitals yesterday.
I seriously hate writing these kinds of blog posts where I have to announce, yet again, another circumcision mishap that didn't make the news. Charlatan doctors that continue to reap profit from male infant genital mutilation will continue to say circumcision is "harmless" because "research" will continue saying it is, because doctors and hospitals aren't required to report such mishaps, so they won't make the statistics used to write these "studies."
What is it going to take for people to see male infant circumcision for the needless genital mutilation that it is and demand this practice stop?
Scrolling down my Facebook news feed, I see this:
This was posted on August 13th, so I'm seeing this late. That was over 10 days ago. There hasn't been an update since.
Did this child die?
We won't know.
Parents were probably advised not to post the rest of this story on Facebook.
How many times do I have to say it?
The risks of male infant circumcision include infection, partial or full ablation, hemorrhage or even death.
Without medical or clinical indication, doctors have no business performing surgery on a healthy newborn, let alone be offering parents any kind of "choice."
Under any other circumstance, reaping profit from non-medical surgery on healthy, non-consenting individuals constitutes medical fraud.
Given that male infant circumcision is elective cosmetic surgery, any risk above 0 is unconscionable.
What is it going to take until this practice is banned and doctors that continue to do this be tried as the mutilators they are?
Unless there is a compelling medical reason, male infant circumcision is genital mutilation.
Those who continue to do this are charlatans, and those doctors whose infant patients died as a direct result of this needless mutilation are guilty of manslaughter.
What is it going to take?
How many more ruined lives and murder victims?
This needs to end NOW.
List of Deaths and Complications Documented on This Blog:
I was scrolling down my Facebook news feed and this caught my eye. I'm not going to comment much on this one... I'm just going to copy-paste what the mother wrote as it speaks enough for itself.
"He was born completely healthy. He died because they were negligent and didn’t clean their circumcision tools and because of that my son contracted herpes and suffered everyday of his life in pain.
"When we came home from the hospital, I told my husband and his pediatrician there was something wrong with my baby. As soon as he came back from having the procedure, he started acting differently. He cried constantly. You see he was in pain. He would clench up, he refused food. I kept telling the dr and my husband there is something wrong with my baby and I think he is going to die.
"He stopped breathing which landed us into the hospital with our 16-day-old baby. It took a week to figure out he had hsv2, which is herpes. The herpes caused him to get meningitis and encephalitis, which eventually ate his brain to the point his brain was liquid.
"My son had 7 spinal taps during his stay. We brought him home after 7 and half weeks in the hospital. At this point they are telling us that he is going to be completely dependent on us the rest of his life, that he suffered severe brain damage.
"We were able to bring him home but he was on iv medication for 2 weeks at home. He needed medication by iv round the clock. My son was on 12 medications. He suffered from seizures due to the meningitis.
"On August __ my son turned blue and stopped breathing again in my arms. We had been home about two weeks. We called 911. They drilled a hole into his tiny little leg on my couch in my living room to get him the iv medication.
"On August __ we had to make the decision to take him off life support. He was completely brain dead. He stopped opening his eyes, eating, crying, moving.
"My little boy was gone. My husband and I took him off life support at 1:22 pm. He died in my arms at 10:35 that night. I watched my little boy slowly stop breathing and die and that was the hardest thing I have ever gone through in my entire life, but he would never be off a ventilator nor would ever open his eyes or speak or anything.
"My daughter was just over the moon happy with having a baby brother. She loved him so much. We had to send her to stay with my parents while our son was fighting for his life so in a sense she lost her brother and her parents for a while.
"She was devastated. She has said so many times she wants to die and go to heaven to be with her brother. She is only 6 years old. We kept her involved as much as we could but this has affected her in so many different ways. We went from explaining to her that he was going to be different and special and need lots of care to I’m sorry but your brother is going to die. She got very mad and hated the world for taking her baby brother.
"The hospital blamed me, saying I gave him herpes which we were able to prove that I don’t have it, never have, nor have I ever been exposed. Our lawyer has been able to pin the time frame along with drs to prove that Oliver caught the infection during the circumcision.
"We didn’t know how it was done until after my son died and I watched a video and I almost lost my mind to see how cruel it is.
"I would have fought with my life to stop the circumcision but they said it was safe and normal.
"We both lived in the hospital with our son. We never left him we were just praying to God that our little boy would live. This child our son is my husband's only biological child . I remember us both blaming ourselves for what happened to our little boy. There was a lot of resentment, a lot of anger towards the hospital where he was birthed. This mistake cost our son his life and tore our family up."
Cases of herpes being spread from mohels and rabbis to male infants have made headlines before, but this is the first time your blogger had ever heard of a child contracting herpes at a hospital from a secular, non-religious circumcision.
The risks of male infant circumcision include, but aren't limited to,
infection, partial or full ablation, hemorrhage and even death.
Because male infant circumcision is elective, non-medical surgery, any risk above zero is unconscionable.
Death is a risk of male infant circumcision.
Are parents being informed of this risk?
This is the question the AAP must address in their next policy statement on male infant circumcision.
It sounds like this mother didn't make a fully informed decision.
Reaping profit from performing elective, non-medical surgery on healthy, non-consenting individuals constitutes medical fraud.
Without
medical or clinical indication, doctors have no business performing
elective, non-medical surgery on healthy, non-consenting individuals,
let alone be eliciting any kind of "choice" from the child's parents.
Deaths due to circumcision surface on Facebook all the time, and yet they barely get any coverage in the news.
I could only imagine that reporters would find more, would that they bothered to look.
The problem is that male infant circumcision has become so entrenched in American society that people have a tendency to look the other way whenever deaths like these happen, or to find some sort of excuse for it.
How many deaths will this take?
How many parents would refuse this needless surgery on their healthy children if they knew death was a risk?
This dirty little secret can't remain hidden forever.
List of Deaths and Complications Documented on This Blog:
When I hear a North American comedian openly criticize male infant circumcision.
On American TV, it's just a constant barrage of "Ew! Foreskin. Men need to be circumcised. It's cleaner. Uncircumcised men are gross. Blah blah blah blah." Whether it's on the news or sitcoms. Some comedians even cringe at intactness and sing the praises of circumcision.
So when I see a comedian openly question male infant circumcision, openly criticize it, it gives me a feeling that maybe things are starting to change.
I was scrolling down my Facebook newsfeed and I noticed someone had posted a video of a comedian talking about how he got criticism for not having had his child circumcised despite the fact that he was circumcised.
I can't post a video of it here because at least for now, it's exclusively on Facebook. However I did transcribe it and I'm going to post it right here.
When you have a son, you have to decide if you want to circumcise him or not, I didn't want to do it. I'm circumised but I thought it was unnecessary.
People got really mad at me though. People are still really pro-circumcision.
Main argument, people are like "It's cleaner! It's cleaner!" And I'm like, "How about we try some soap and water first? Before we just start chopping things off people's bodies."
Like "Eew! The butt's gross! Get it outta there!"
Next argument, pople are like "Oh, he's not gon' remember, he's not gon' to remember."
It's like, yeah he's a BABY. He's not gon' remember ANYTHING. This doesn't mean I should DO it. I could stab him in the LEG and he's not gon' remember it.
Like "First two years! Do whatever you want! No memories!"
Then the weirdest argument I kept getting from multiple people, where like, who knew I was circumcised, they were like, "Well don't you want your penis and your son's penis to MATCH?"
What kind of fucked up father/son pageant do you think we're entering into?
Like "Hello my baby, hello my darling, hello my ragtime gal..."
"Look at those penises! They're so similar! Same barber..."
I'll link to the video on Facebook here, but I think it's only accessible to those who have Facebook accounts.
I was like "Alright!!!"
So refreshing!!!
"THANK you, THANK you!" I thought.
So I decided to check out the origin of the video and I see the guy's Facebook page. (Visitors with Facebook accounts can see it right here.)
And I notice the name is Ahmed Bharoocha.
Now, mind you, I had never even heard of this comedian.
And I think "Wow. Ahmed. That's a Muslim name isn't it?"
To me this is a big deal, because I know that having your child circumcised is seen as a religious requirement not only for Jews, but also for Muslims.
I've gotta say, I admire this comedian for his bravery in openly admitting he left his own child intact and criticizing circumcision through his act.
So not only is this a North American man openly criticizing circumcision and leaving his own child intact, but a North American of Muslim background.
Good for this guy.
Even though he himself is circumcised, he decided this isn't something he wants to do to his son. Seeing this video and finding out about this man and his son made my day.
Ahmed Bharoocha and Son
But you know, Ahmed isn't the first North American comedian I've heard openly talking about intactness and circumcision. Not too long ago, I saw another video clip by a guy named Andrew Schulz.
I don't know too much about this guy either, but that name "Schulz" sounds rather Jewish.
I can't be sure, though, so don't quote me on this.
Why would this be a big deal?
I imagine that if criticizing circumcision is difficult for anyone, it has got to be for a Jewish man, as male infant circumcision is seen as divine commandment for Jewish people.
But who knows, maybe he's not even Jewish.
It's still a big deal, because male infant circumcision is ingrained in American culture.
I'm going to post a transcription of the above clip here, because I think it's just awesome.
"I heard this girl say 'I would never hook up with a guy with an uncircumcised penis.'
I was like 'You *do* know what a pussy looks like, right?'
A pussy looks like a bucket of foreskin, that's what a pussy looks like.
How DARE she say 'Ah, uh, it's this little extra skin at the top.'
'You got a JELLYFISH floppin' between YOUR legs... Never complained about THAT...'
We LOVE your vaginas. Both types.
That's the sound of a room full of women sayin' 'There's two types of vaginas? What type of vagina do I have?'
I'll let you decide; there's two.
One are the 'innies,' right?
Those are the ones that are, they're all tucked in, they look like a, like a... like a pork bun. All tucked in and neat...
Like if they could talk, they'd be like, real bashful.
They'd be like 'What are we doing? I don't even know you! Okay!'
And then there are the 'outies,' right?
And those are the ones that look like someone took a picture if it on a roller coaster...
'Ah!!!!!' Burble burble burble...
That shit's floppin' around for no reason... Is this a vagina or a balled up fruit roll-up? WTF is going on? I love fruit roll-ups, though, so it's not a problem for me."
Yes, yes, YES!
Finally someone's saying it!
Yes, it looks like the culture is finally changing...
This reminds me of that whole Taylor Swift/ Harry Styles breakup.
Women are always balking at intact penises, it's about time people start talking about intact vaginas.
This morning, I woke up to this post on my Facebook news feed:
Apparently, Facebook is censoring Doctors Opposing Circumcision and information about circumcision deaths. According DOC, Facebook removed many educational graphics they created without any notification.
Furthermore, they are not allowing the DOC website to be
shared on their platform.
I myself have experienced censorship on Facebook.
Not too long ago, I created a page to address the fact that most American textbooks on health and human anatomy graphically depict the penis as circumcised, and if the foreskin is even mentioned at all, it is described as "that extra flap of skin covering the penis which is removed during circumcision." No actual pictures of the human penis were posted, only the hand-drawn graphics published in the textbooks, which show the penis dissected in many different ways for educational purposes, but apparently that was enough for Facebook to take down the whole page.
It would be very easy for critics to lump us in with the anti-vaxx movement, and thus use it as grounds to censor us, however vaccination has been scientifically proven to strengthen the immune system against pathogens that cause disease. They do not remove any flesh from the body, and, they are actually recommended by every respected medical organization, unlike circumcision.
Unless there is medical indication, and/or the individual consents, all surgery is abuse, medical fraud and mutilation. It prevents as much disease as blood letting and head trepanation.
If there were any justice, it would be pro-circ groups and websites who would be censored, because they spread much misinformation that takes an unfounded position against the most respected medical organizations in the west.
This wouldn't be the first time I've experienced censorship on social media for challenging male infant circumcision; not too long ago I was on Twitter, and the platform would not even let me post the following Tweet:
There is a problem when those who run social media platforms decide certain narratives shouldn't be challenged.
Intactivists aren't even publishing controversial, misleading information.
There is a problem when Facebook censors well-documented information, citations of medical journals and references to the most respected medical organizations in the world.
I can only surmise that information is taken down whenever someone, or some group reports it as being "offensive."
Which raises the question:
Are scientifically demonstrable facts going to be censored every time somebody finds them "offensive?"
